Guitar
Teaching Philosophy
The guitar is the most popular musical instrument in the world, attracting everyone from beginner amateurs to highly skilled and virtuoso students. I enjoy creating ensembles that include everyone, according to each student's ability and musical level. MUSIC UNITES, and it is the universal language of feelings.
Biography
Javier is a musician and composer who has loved the guitar throughout his life. He was born in Mexico City, where he learned his first chords in childhood. He performed as a guitarist at the Parish of Santiago Tlatelolco. During his teenage years, he was a member of a Latin American music group in Tlatelolco, Mexico City.

At the Autonomous University of Chapingo, he earned a degree in Agricultural Engineering with a specialization in Rural Sociology, class of 1977–1984. During those seven years, he diligently attended the Guitar Workshop coordinated by Professor Javier Martínez. It was there that he built a strong foundation for deepening his study of the guitar, reading sheet music, and performing classical guitar repertoire, as well as Mexican and Latin American music, including pop and Anglo-American repertoire. During this time, he also formed the “Espiral” New Song group with fellow students, marking his first experience in composition. With this group, he moved to Cancún, where he later began his solo career.

His guitar has taken him to a wide range of venues throughout Mexico, the Americas, and Europe. He has performed in hotels, on television and radio programs, at universities, cultural centers, concert halls, festivals, schools, exhibitions, weddings, restaurants, and bars.

On the centenary of the birth of Engineer Álvaro Carrillo in 2019, the Chapingo Foundation established the Álvaro Carrillo Medal to be awarded to alumni with distinguished artistic careers. The first medal was presented to Javier Rojas.

Since 1984, his primary source of income has been uninterrupted performances in the hotels of Cancún and the Riviera Maya—literally all of them.

He has recorded eight albums featuring his own compositions:
Bruma (1993), Camino de tierra (1996), El Tianguis (2000), Luz Marina (2005), Poco a poco (2008), Andante en Sol (2012), Navegando (2017), and Olas (2020).
They are available on major music streaming and download platforms, including Spotify, iTunes, and YouTube Music.

His works are primarily compositions for guitar. On his early albums, the guitar appears alone—both austere and richly expressive at the same time. In his more recent recordings, additional instruments enhance the guitar pieces through ensemble arrangements.

He resides in Cancún; this beautiful place has been his home and center of operations. In his own words: “I will continue deepening my study of the guitar for as long as life allows me.”
